Estoril Sol, SGPS, S.A. (ESON.LS) did not submit a proposal for the international public tender for a new concession of the Povoa de Varzim gaming zone, according to reporting by Jornal de Negocios and ECO.
The operation of the Casino da Povoa was temporarily extended under the current concession holder. The Portuguese government subsequently announced the extension of casino concessions in the Algarve, Espinho, and Povoa de Varzim gaming zones by an additional three months, as it was unable to conclude the new concessions process by 31 December 2025.
Estoril Sol reported reduced losses of EUR 1.8 million in H1 2025, compared to losses of EUR 3.6 million in the same period of the prior year. The Casino Estoril continues to register the largest losses within the group, at EUR 8.5 million, though this represented a slight improvement versus 2024.
The company operates Casino do Estoril, Casino Lisboa, and Casino da Povoa, as well as online casino and sports betting activities.
